Objectives
of the Course:
Understand computers and their
functions
! Understand examples of how
computers are changing the way we teach and learn
! Describe how and why
network computers are used in schools and school districts
! Describe the educational
implications of the Internet and the World Wide Web
! Identify the important
features of widely used software applications
! List and describe learning
aids and support tools that help you use and learn software applications
! Identify the major components
of the system unit and explain their functions
! Examine the uses of
multimedia authoring software programs
! Identify the ways to get
started using technology at a new school
! Describe ways to integrate
technology into specific curriculum subject areas
Nature
of Course:
This course is
designed to provide students with an overview of the technologies that can
enhance teaching and learning. Students
will use basic computer skills and various software applications that will be
helpful in the educational setting.
Course
Requirements:
Four tests
will be given, one after every two chapters.
You will be required to complete the chapter activities as
assigned. We will discuss the details of
these assignments during class time. Due
dates for assignments and test dates will be given in class.
Your
assignments will carry the following point values
Tests, 100 points each
Computer Genius, 10 points
each
Crossword puzzles, 15 points
each
Practice tests, 20 points each
Notebook of collected
information, 100 points
Electronic Portfolio, 100
points
Other assignments will have
various point values
There will be
no make up tests. If you miss a test,
the next test will count twice. It is
possible that your final test would count four times.
Assignments must
be turned in on their due date, at the beginning of class. I will not accept late assignments.
All
assignments are subject to change. If
you are absent, call me or another class member for your assignment.
The grading scale for this course is as follows:
A = 92 - 100%
B = 83 - 91%
C = 72 - 82%
D = 62 - 71%
F = Below
62%
Academic
Dishonesty Policy: Cheating on a test
or assignment will result in a zero (0) for that work.
Attendance Requirements:
Regular
attendance and punctuality are expected.
All arrangements for completing missed work are to be made with the
instructor. Each class is
important. If you have to miss, then you
will probably miss something important.
Failure to come to class or
failure to drop the course will result in the student receiving an F for the
semester.
